Dental crowns bond to and conceal your tooth, hiding and strengthening any damage done. Porcelain crowns are often recommended by our West Palm Beach Dentist office because they can be color-matched so as to be indistinguishable from your natural teeth. Crowns return the strength and comfort that your natural teeth provide.
There are several reasons why a crown may become necessary, such as chipping or other accidental damage. If tooth decay or disease has worn away much of your tooth or exposed your root canal, dental crowns can help. You may have unsightly or damaged fillings or you may simply prefer the porcelain crown for their superior ability to enhance your cosmetic appearance.
What to expect during and after the procedure
Patients can expect the installation of their porcelain crown to take two visits to our West Palm Beach office. Dr. Moorhouse will discuss with you which material is best suited to your needs and wishes and go over the procedure. The first visit will entail a thorough cleaning of the area and removal of any decay or debris. A mold of your teeth will be taken so your custom crown can be fabricated. You will receive a temporary crown so you can continue to perform as normal. It typically takes about two weeks for your crown to be created.
During the next visit Dr. Moorhouse will clean the area once again and secure the crown in place. Your bite will be tested and small adjustments may be made to remove any spaces, ensure a proper fit, and guarantee comfort.
Caring for your dental crowns
Porcelain crowns have an average life of around 15 years and are resistant to staining and chipping. However, regardless of the material chosen for your crown, it is very important to maintain proper oral hygiene and eating habits. Keeping regular check-ups and cleanings will keep your crowns and natural teeth healthy and strong.
