Your smile is one of the first things that people notice about you. A bright and attractive smile can make a spectacular first impression. The procedure of teeth whitening is simple, effective, and can have a profound effect on your appearance and confidence. And with several methods to choose from, Dr. Moorhouse can tailor the process to your needs.
Discoloration can occur in patients for several reasons. Certain medications, such as tetracycline, can cause your teeth to turn gray. If your water is highly fluoridated, discoloration may also occur. Some patients experience discoloration due to age or regular wear. And certain foods and habits, such as wine and coffee consumption or tobacco use can change the color of your enamel.
Types of whitening procedures
Patients can choose whether they would prefer to have their teeth whitened in our West Palm Beach office or at home. Both methods have their benefits, but many patients prefer the freedom, comfort, and convenience of the home whitening method.
What to expect with the home whitening procedure
You can usually expect to come into our West Palm Beach office twice for your home whitening procedure. The first appointment allows Dr. Moorhouse to take an impression of your teeth. This impression will be used to craft whitening trays that will perfectly fit your mouth. You will receive these custom trays during your second appointment. Dr. Moorhouse will ensure they conform appropriately to your bite and will go over the proper techniques to use them. In addition, any further questions you have in regards to their use will be answered.
You have a few options on how to wear the trays once you’re home. One method is to wear them two times each day, for 30 minutes each time. Another common method is to simply wear them while you sleep. The degree to which your teeth are discolored as well as your preference for whiteness will determine how long you will need to use the home whitening kit.
Caring for your teeth after whitening
In order to maintain your bright new smile, it’s important to keep up good oral hygiene and eating habits. These habits, along with regular check-ups and cleanings at our West Palm Beach office, will ensure you keep your beautiful smile for as long as possible.
